Nan’s 90th birthday
There are some moments in life that hold more weight than others—milestones that remind us of the love, history, and legacy we’re lucky to be part of. Recently, I had the honour of photographing a deeply personal event: my Great Nan’s 90th birthday celebration. And let me tell you—it was a day filled with laughter, hugs, stories, and a whole lot of cake.
The party was held at a pub we have been to many times as a family. My family took so much care decorating the space with flowers (this place pretty much looked like a florist) —photo snapshots of Nan as a young woman (she was simply stunning & still is!) Seeing photos of Nan alongside the ones I captured that day felt like bridging the past and present through the lens of a camera.
Nan has the sparkliest eyes I’ve just about ever seen, they were especially sparkly this day as they lit up with every guest who walked through the door, every detail told a story. Cousins reunited, great-grandchildren danced in the corner, and friends shared memories. And at the centre of it all, Nan, wearing her signature smile and soaking in the love.
As a photographer, it was a beautiful reminder of why I do what I do. It’s not just about the images—it’s about preserving emotions, connections, and the unique energy of each moment. Milestone birthdays like this one deserve to be remembered not just for the number, but for the legacy that number represents.
To my Nan—thank you for letting me document your special day. Your strength, grace, and warmth inspire me in ways you probably don’t even realise. Here’s to 90 incredible years, and to all the memories still to come.
